Sold yesterday – a sonnet written by Terrel Hale

Terrel Hale wrote a sonnet for the work below.

#789, untitled, alkyd paint on cardboard, wood glue, December 2023

sold yesterday

its linen like thread patterns vocal stretch
ending each fastened syllable’s abide
sunning the dark tongues on the mouth to wretch
a sown of maybe, a small recoursed side

a song here in fleshlessness in a placed
flower englutted writing chant through say
peopled beauty enters fragments erase
a heart with things defying poet day

noting the text on the other side dream
hangs like a wall waits for the next sale
waiting to complete the cycles that seem
the very best effort of black to pale

incursions into the thrumbs of silence
once we can get past time’s reduced romance.
